What is “Smile in a day”?

If you have lost all your teeth in a jaw or need to have them all replaced we can now remove failing teeth, place implants and provide you with a fixed bridge all in the same day. The good news if you need to replace your teeth with dental implants is that you do not need as many implants as new teeth.

Smile in a day or teeth in a day (previously know as All-On-4) is a treatment concept that has evolved over the past 20 years involving the placement of four and in some cases more, Titanium implants into either an upper or lower jaw and then fixing a whole set of teeth on them. In many cases, the treatment can be completed within a day or so. Implant manufacturer Nobel Biocare pioneered the evolution of All-on-4 technique. We now use Megagen implants

As we have an on site laboratory, you can now visit into our practice in heart of the City of London in the morning with failing teeth or missing teeth and walk out the very same day with a whole new set of natural-looking, natural-acting teeth! That really is something to smile about.

As the name suggests, we use just four implants, which can support a full set of new teeth in the form of a fixed bridge. Usually they do not require bone grafts and is suitable for patients with a lot less bone than is necessary in standard dental implant protocols.

The implants are placed and angled in such a way that they can support several teeth, withstanding the forces created by biting and chewing. Special implants are also available for patients with extreme bone loss. You can read more about implants here.

What happens during an “Smile in a day” procedure?

Day of the procedure

1. Arrive at the practice in the morning, accompanied by an escort who can take you home at the end of the day
2. Sign the necessary paperwork and settle into the treatment chair
3. Your anaesthetist will administer IV sedation, which will take effect in a few minutes
4. Your surgeon will place the implants, this usually takes about two hours. With sedation feels like minutes
5. In the afternoon your surgeon will fit a fixed provisional bridge
6. Finally, you will have the chance to look at your new smile in the mirror.

After the procedure

After two to three weeks our surgeon will check your implants. This is to check for proper healing and talk to you about any issues you are having. This can be with fit or function. 3-4 months later, once the implants have fully healed. you will receive your permanent implant bridge.
