You may have recently seen adverts popping up advertising\nthe Waterpik. We asked our dental hygienist and therapist Brooke<\/a> to tell you\nmore about it and whether it could benefit you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the\nWaterpik?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Waterpik is a handheld device which cleans between your\nteeth and around dental work such a crowns, bridges and implants with a pressurised\njet of water. The Waterpik delivers a constant flow of water which you can\ncontrol from low to high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So,\nwhat\u2019s the idea behind it?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The idea is that the stream of water gently pushes the\nplaque and food off of your teeth, leaving you with a clean, fresh feelingand a\nhealthy smile. It is easy to use, just trace the tip around the edges and\nbetween all of your teeth. If you\u2019ve never used one before you\u2019ll soon get the\nhang of it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there different types of Waterpik?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Yes, there are two types of Waterpik. One has a handle\nplugged into a reservoir and runs from a bathroom shaver socket. The other is\ncordless with a built-in reservoir. Both Waterpiks work in the same way,\nhowever the cordless is a smaller less powerful machine but easier to store in\nyour bathroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you\nrecommend a Waterpik?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There are plenty of brands out there that offer inter-dental cleaning aids to suit you, we particularly like the Philips Airfloss<\/a>. This works a little differently to other devices, where the device delivers puffs of water and air to clean the teeth instead of a constant flow. You will be able to find your Airfloss or Waterpik by searching online or heading to your local health and beauty stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who would benefit from a Waterpik or Airfloss?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Those with limited dexterity may find these easier to use,\nas interdental brushes and floss can often be difficult or tricky to use. Those\nwho have crowns, bridges and implants will also benefit from using them as it\ncan sometimes be harder to remove plaque from difficult places. We also find\nour patients with fixed braces find them much quicker to clean their mouths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are a great addition to your interdental cleaning\nroutine, but it is not to be used to replace your regular interdental brushes\nand floss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
